The Recipes Project gets a Substack
But we're keeping everything about the blog you've loved for over a decade.
Dear Recipes Project readers,
Since 2012, The Recipes Project has been sharing exciting research about recipes of all kinds, from all places, and nearly all of human history, on our blog, https://recipes.hypotheses.org. In the Fall of 2023, we moved from a blog roll to a quarterly issue format with the aim of bringing guest editors on to champion exciting new work on recipes around a central theme. Recent issues have explored “Recipes at Play” and “Recipes for Rebirth” with posts from contributors with a range of research interests. We love how the new format has made space for new kinds of content, including an Around the Table Podcast, hosted by our own Sarah Peters Kernan, and a quarterly Publication Highlight, focusing on a recently published work in the history of recipes.
Beginning in Summer 2023, we’re excited to bring you a preview of each quarterly issue in a newsletter sent directly to your inbox. When you subscribe to our Substack, you’re subscribing to the same great content you’ve already been enjoying on our blog, but now you can be sure that you’ll never miss an episode of “Around the Table” or a cool post on recipes for magic tricks or for ancient medicine.
We know The Recipes Project has been an important resource and a source of community for many of you for over a decade, and our hope is that it will remain so for years to come. Our decision to join Substack reflects our desire to keep up with where open-access, public-facing writing and scholarship are heading. We hope you’ll enjoy receiving updates from The Recipes Project in your inbox, and that you’ll think about sharing our newsletter with a friend.
With thanks,
The Recipes Project Editorial Team
